Funding for CFI research, extension and Indigenous projects


In addition to the new round of Biodiversity Funding (North Australia) available,  funding rounds have also opened for the Carbon Farming Futures - Extension and Outreach Program and Filling the Research Gap, and the Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund.

Extension and Outreach Program

Applications are open for the Australian Government’s $64 million Carbon Farming Futures Extension and Outreach (E&O) Program. Individuals and organisations can apply for funding to assist farmers and land managers to adopt technologies and practices and participate in the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI).

Filling the Research Gap
 

On 14 November 2012, the Australian Government announced Round 2 of the Carbon Farming Futures Filling the Research Gap (FtRG).
 

The application period for Round 2 is open until 23 January 2013. This second round of funding provides up to $50 million in competitive grants to fund research that will create more opportunities for farmers and land managers to benefit from the economic opportunities of the CFI.

Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund
 

On 7 November 2012, the Australian Government opened the first round of the Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund – Capacity Building and Business Support stream.
 

Over the next five years the government will invest $22.3 million to help Indigenous organisations and land managers participate in the CFI by providing practical financial support and investing in the development of additional carbon farming methodologies.

 
Round one of the Capacity Building and Business stream will invest up to $1.3 million to support Indigenous land managers through:
 

·         feasibility and assessment – grants up to $50 000 to help investigate carbon farming opportunities, assess feasibility, seek specialist advice and explore partnership opportunities

·         business and project development – grants up to $300 000 to help build a carbon farming business with an existing project plan or completed feasibility assessment. Funding can be used to establish a carbon farming enterprise, employ a project manager or engage specialist legal, contractual or financial advice.
