Land Sector Package

  • A $1.7 billion component of the Clean Energy Future Plan
  • Aims to help land managers reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon sequestration
  • Includes:
    • Biodiversity Fund - $946 mil to promote biodiverse carbon stores. Northern Australian targeted investment 2013/14 round is closed. Round 2 is now closed.
    • Carbon Farming Futures - $429 mil provided for research, development and extension for emerging abatement technologies. Successful applications under round 2 of Filling the Research Gap Program were announced on 3 April. Action on the Ground Round 2 is open until 23 May. Extension and Outreach applications can be submitted at any time, with assessments twice a year.
    • Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund - $22 mil to assist Indigenous Australians to participate in the carbon market. Currently closed
    • Carbon Farming Skills - $4 mil to provide land managers with access to credible carbon services from carbon brokers and aggregators
    • Refundable Tax Offset - A 15% offset is available for new conservation tillage equipment. The opportunity is currently open.

Caring for our Country 

  • $2 billion has been allocated to Phase two of the initiative to run from 2013-14 to 2017-18
  • In phase two, objectives will be focused under two streams - Sustainable Environment, and Sustainable Agriculture
  • Innovation Grants for up to $1.5 million are open until July 4 2013. For more information click here.
  • Community Landcare Grants under the Sustainable Agriculture Stream closed on 20 March. 
  • Target Area Grants (the open call funding component of the Sustainable Environment stream) closed on April 10.
  • Community Environment Grants for up to $50,000 closed on May 8.

  • Provides grants up to $10,000 for on-ground actions to reduce environmental impacts

Territory Conservation Agreements (TCAs)

  • Territory Natural Resource Management can provide up to $50,000 to protect sites of conservation significance
  • The agreement is a 10 year contract to manage the site based on an agreed plan. It does not go on Title or bind future owners.
  • Sites must contain good quality native vegetation and not be seriously threatened (e.g. weed infestation)
  • Eligible activities include: fencing; off-stream water points, herbicide; equipment hire for erosion control; seeds or saplings for revegetation; and contract labour
  • Benefits to landholders may include: weed, fire and feral management; improved grazing management; improved water quality, soil stabilisation

Assistance, including herbicide and spray equipment loans, will be available for the next gamba grass growing season for control throughout the Darwin, Palmerston, Litchfield and Coomalie areas. Click here for more information.

  • Provides grants of up to $20,000 for on-ground natural resource management.
